12017-06-23T17:08:28+00:00Alisa Clapp-Itnyre5plain2020-06-26T19:10:25+00:00Alisa Clapp-Itnyre received her Ph.D. in English from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, in 1996. She is now Professor of English at Indiana University East, Richmond, Indiana, where she teaches Children's Literature, Young-Adult Literature, Victorian literature, British Literature, and medieval literature, among others. She also established (2005), and was Director of the Honors Program, 2010-2018.
Her scholarship explores interdisciplinary music-literature connections in Victorian culture, Childhood Studies, as well as feminist concerns in children’s literature. She has published in Victorian Poetry, Victorian Literature and Culture, Victorians Institute Journal, Children’s Literature Association Quarterly, and Children’s Literature and Education, among others. Of books, she is author of Angelic Airs, Subversive Songs: Music as Social Discourse in the Victorian Novel (Ohio UP, 2002) and co-editor, with Julie Melnyk, of "Perplext by Faith:" Essays on Victorian Beliefs and Doubts (Cambridge Scholars, 2015).
She continues to do more work with Bands of Mercy organizations and has two publications forthcoming on the Brontës' hymn-singing experiences. Her next project is an exploration of children’s diaries of the late Victorian period based on research in major archives in the U.K. and Australia.
